Papua New Guinea finished 7th in Victoria at the 2012 Pacific Youth Championships. The team overcame Tahiti 67:57 in the Playoff for 7th and 8th places as the latter ended up on the 8th spot.
Papua New Guinea opened the game with 20-18 in the first period, but led only 1 point at the halftime. Both teams scored 17 points each in the third quarter, while Papua New Guinea needed the final push to escape the last place. They erupted with 17-8 in the last stanza for the final success.
Moses Lune top-scored for the winners with 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Emmanuel Parapa netted 12. Bomai Muri delivered 10, while Obert Muri tossed in 9. Vehiarai Thunot produced 14 points in a loss, whilst Natua Ariipeu and Byron Vahapata had 10 each.
Tahiti made 48 Rebounds versus 44 from Papua New Guinea. The latter however had more Assists 23 against 14.
