Due to medical reasons, the current president of the Vanuatu Basketball Federation, Nancy Kasten, has voluntarily stepped down.

Mrs Kasten was elected to office six months ago. In that period she set about to realise a long time federation goal, to see a basketball complex built in Port Vila. Furthermore Mrs Kasten was preparing her work plan to be implemented during the next six months.

Concern raised by VASANOC over lack of proper administration and financial transparency in sport federations prompted many to change their executives. The national basketball body was one of many federations to follow suit, which saw Mrs Kasten elected to office in August last year.

She has been involved with basketball as a player ( in the 60's to late 70's) before switching to a coach and later becoming club representative.

Independent Sport understood her election to president was supported by all provincial league presidents. She was also seen as someone who has experience from both sides, as a player and administrator.

Her unfortunate early resignation from this post leaves a gap yet to be filled and calls for a quick executive meeting to elect a new president. It is also understood the championship season for Port Vila starts around April this year and looks likely to have new teams coming into the league as well as teams progressing to the upper division this year.
