Primary schools in the east division of the SEPSSA basketball tournament witnessed a very important handover. From now on the South Efate Primary Schools Sport Association basketball tournament will be run by the Port Vila basketball league.

PVBL president Gloria Lango accepted the idea and vowed to make sure Port Vila basketball league nurture the tournament.
"I believe this is an important step in the right direction and we will do our best to help the kids to understand and become more involved in this sport to enhance their interest," said Gloria.
SEPSSA president Mune Smith expressed the association's gratitude for Port Vila basketball league stepping in to help the teachers with the basketball tournament. SEPSSA is an organisation formed by the primary school teachers in the South Efate region back in the early 90's. The aim of the organisation is to get their students involved in sport and build their interest in sport as part of their school curriculum.
Vanuatu Basketball Federation development officer, Pierre Izono, speaking to teachers and members of the SEPSSA committee present for the opening of the basketball tournament, said kids are the future of basketball. He went on to say that it is important to get them interested in the sport early so they continue to grow with it into their teenage and young adulthood when they are in their prime, sportwise.
