Classic Challenge grand-finals set to thrill fans

Excitement is building up for the grand-finals of the Shefa Basketball Classic Challenge this Saturday 4pm at the Korman Arena for the women’s category and 6pm for the men’s side. The event will be broadcasted live for the first time by Capital FM 107 to fans. It will kick off with the women’s battle between Sia Raga 1 and Grand Hotel, followed by the men’s showdown between the VMF team and Seveners at 6pm. The semi-finals, held earlier this week, showcased intense competition in the women’s category, with Grand Hotel securing a decisive victory against Wan Smol Bag with a score 56-24.

Meanwhile, Seveners clinched a nail-biting win over Pilipinas with a narrow three-point margin, ending the game at 53 to 50 points making it to the finals. President of Shefa Basketball, Mildred Izono, highlighted the significance of the competition’s final stages, noting the organization’s commitment to expanding the sport’s reach across rural areas. Izono expressed gratitude to Capital FM 107 for their live coverage of the event, featuring renowned sports commentator Harry Atisson. “We invite all fans and supporters to join us for a moment of joy and camaraderie as we witness the culmination of this thrilling tournament,” she urged. Prior to the grand finals, smaller finals will determine the third-place winners, with Tupuji facing off against Wan Smol Bag in the women’s category, and Legends taking on Pilipinas BC in the men’s category at 3 pm. Adding to the excitement of the day, a shooting competition at 5:30 pm will provide a platform to scout talented athletes, further enriching the sporting landscape of Vanuatu. Shefa Province Sports Coordinator, Vanuatu Basketball Federation executive, WSB and for the reactivation of the Port Vila Basketball League (PVBL) after 10 years of dormancy, the PVBL executive are among the invited guests list of that day.
