Very expected game when bottom-ranked Mavericks (0-4) were smashed by top-ranked Tigers (4-0) in Mt. Barker 90-37 on Sunday. Tigers held Mavericks to an opponent 23.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.6 percent accuracy of the winners and made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game, while Mavericks only scored six points from the stripe. They outrebounded Mavericks 51-23 including a 38-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Teige Morrell orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Morgan Yaeger (175-98, college: Oregon) contributed with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Tigers players scored in double figures. Forward Mollie McKendrick (183-93, college: Boston U.) replied with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Ashlyn Menz added 6 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Mavericks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tigers maintains second position in League with 4-0 record having just one victory less than leader Frankston B. Loser Mavericks still closes the standings with four games lost. Tigers will face Lions (#9) in Gawler in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mavericks will play on the road against Flames in Marden and look forward to get finally their first victory.
