Regular Season Round 12: Eltham W. - Sandringham S. 83-80
Date: May 16, 2021
A very interesting game took place in Eltham. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Sabres (3-3) to first ranked Wildcats (6-1) 83-80 on Sunday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Wildcats players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Sabres helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by swingman Anneli Maley (188-98, college: TCU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points and 24 rebounds and center Rebecca Pizzey (190-99) supported her with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Wildcats players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds by the former international Jenna OHea (185-87) did not help to save the game for Sabres. Point guard Amy ONeill (168-96, college: SFC) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Sabres' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Wildcats went down to second position (League) due to points difference. Sabres at the other side dropped to the tenth place with three games lost. Wildcats' next round opponent will be Tornadoes (#7) in Launceston where they are favorite.
