Regular Season Round 27: Illawarra - Melbourne 87-102

An interesting game for United (24-7) which played road game in Gwynneville against 4th placed Illawarra Hawks (15-15). First ranked United had an easy win 102-87. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Illawarra Hawks. United shot 61.2 percent from the field. United had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. United players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Illawarra Hawks' players. The best player for the winners was the former international center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary's, CA) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) chipped in 25 points. Four United players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized South Sudanese forward Deng Deng (203-92, college: Baylor) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and international power forward Samson Froling (212-0, college: Creighton) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. United maintains first place with 24-7 record. Illawarra Hawks at the other side keep the fourth position with 15 games lost. United will have a break next round. Illawarra Hawks will play on the road against Adelaide 36ers (#7) in Findon and hope to win that game.
