Regular Season Round 12: Norwood F. - Sturt S. 77-97

There was no surprise in Marden where 6th ranked Norwood Flames (3-4) were outplayed by top-ranked Sturt Sabres (7-0) 97-77 on Saturday. Sturt Sabres dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Norwood Flames' 38. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Joel Spear (192-94, college: S.Oregon) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized Greek power forward Max Calligeros (197-92) who added 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Sturt Sabres players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman CJ Turnage (201-95, college: SVSU) with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Matthew Lycett (194-90) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sturt Sabres maintains first position in League with 7-0 record. Loser Norwood Flames dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Sturt Sabres will face South Adelaide Panthers (#6) in Park Holme in the next round where they are favorite. Norwood Flames will play on the road against Central District Lions in Gawler and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
