There was a small surprise in Floreat where eleventh ranked Hawks (3-5) beat 8th ranked Lightning (3-3) 91-74 on Friday. Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lightning's 30. Hawks forced 21 Lightning turnovers and outrebounded them 46-35 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Lightning's players. It was a great evening for forward Megan McKay (190-97, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Point guard Millicent McCarthy (165-2) helped adding 20 points. Five Hawks players scored in double figures. At the losing side power forward Ashleigh Isenbarger (187-97) responded with 25 points and 7 rebounds and forward Kyrah Daniels (180-4) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hawks moved-up to ninth place in League. Loser Lightning keeps the eighth position with three games lost. Hawks will face higher ranked Cougars (#3) in Hamilton Hill in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
