Regular Season Round 17: Rockingham F. - Eastern Suns 94-98

There was an upset when higher ranked Flames (7-5) lost to eleventh ranked Suns (4-8) in Rockingham 94-98 on Friday. Strangely Flames outrebounded Suns 44-21 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Chris Johnson (201-90, college: UIW) nailed 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and guard Jermaine Malie (185-96) accounted for 14 points. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Forward Atem Bior (201, college: UTSA) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and forward Justin Beard (196-96) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Flames in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Suns moved-up to ninth place in League. Loser Flames dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Suns will meet at home league's second-placed Lightning in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Flames will play against Giants and hope to secure a win.
