A very close game took place in Gwynneville between Illawarra Hawks and New Zealand Breakers. Illawarra Hawks (3-1) got a very close home victory over New Zealand Breakers (0-5). Illawarra Hawks managed to escape with a 1-point win 97-96 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Illawarra Hawks made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for international center Duop Reath (210-96, college: LSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) helped adding 26 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was New Zealand forward Yannick Wetzell (208-96, college: SDSU) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds and guard William McDowell-White (196-98, college: Fresno St.) scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Illawarra Hawks and five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Illawarra Hawks will meet at home Melbourne Phoenix (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. New Zealand Breakers will play against JackJumpers (#9) in Hobart and hope to get finally their first victory.
