There was no surprise in Gwynneville where 10th ranked Cairns Taipans (3-8) were crushed by fifth ranked Illawarra Hawks (8-7) 79-54 on Friday. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Antonius Cleveland (196-1994, college: SEMO) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 7 rebounds and the former international center Duop Reath (210-1996, college: LSU) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Stephen Zimmerman (211-1996, college: UNLV) with 8 points and 8 rebounds and South Sudanese forward Majok Deng (205-1993, college: ULM) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Illawarra Hawks maintains fifth position with 8-7 record. Cairns Taipans lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Illawarra Hawks will meet New Zealand Breakers (#9) in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play against the league's leader United in Melbourne and hope to secure a win.
