Everything could happen in Wendouree at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Geelong Supercats and much higher ranked Ballarat Rush had identical 0-0 record. But Ballarat Rush was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Geelong 81-69 on Saturday night. It was a great evening for the former international forward Sara Blicavs (189-1993) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Sarah Elsworthy (171-1998) helped adding 11 points and 6 rebounds. Geelong Supercats' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side the former international forward Zitina Aokuso (194-1998) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and forward Kristy Rinaldi (181-1986) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Ballarat Rush players scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats (1-0) left bottom position moving up to fourth place in League. Loser Ballarat Rush still closes the standings with one game lost. Geelong Supercats will meet at home league's second-placed Hawks in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ballarat Rush will play against Wildcats (#17) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
