There was no surprise when 11th ranked South West Metro Pirates (3-5) were outleveled by second ranked Mackay Meteors (8-3) in Runcorn 82-48 on Sunday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mackay Meteors made 8 blocks. The former international forward Jaylin Galloway (198-2002) nailed 25 points and 4 steals for the winning side and Malok Majak accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized New Zealand swingman Zac Carter (203-1989) came up with 9 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Taylor Young (190-1990, college: WPU) added 8 points respectively for South West Metro Pirates in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mackay Meteors keep a position of League leader. Loser South West Metro Pirates keep the eleventh place with five games lost. Mackay Meteors will meet at home Townsville Heat (#13) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. South West Metro Pirates will play against Seahawks and hope to secure a win.
