Regular Season Round 27: Dandenong R. - Ballarat M. 70-72

Fifteenth-ranked Dandenong Rangers (3-8) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Ballarat Miners (8-4) on Sunday. The visitors from Wendouree managed to secure only two-point victory 72-70. However their fans expected much easier game. Ballarat Miners forced 19 Dandenong Rangers turnovers. Strangely Dandenong Rangers outrebounded Ballarat Miners 51-29 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American-Kenyan forward Preston Bungei (198-1995, college: Norfolk St.) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Greek swingman Nic Pozoglou (196-1996) accounted for 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. New Zealand forward Dyson King-Hawea (200-1992) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and Deng Puoch added 8 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Dandenong Rangers in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ballarat Miners moved-up to second place in League. Loser Dandenong Rangers keep the fifteenth position with eight games lost. Ballarat Miners will meet at home Ringwood Hawks (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dandenong Rangers will play against Knox Raiders (#6) and hope to secure a win.
