Eighth-ranked Canberra Capitals (2-16) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Townsville Fire (11-4). Townsville Fire managed to secure only one-point victory 81-80. However their fans expected much easier game. Townsville Fire players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-1991, college: Maryland, agency: LBM Management) who saved her team from a defeat with 19 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Zitina Aokuso (194-1998) contributed with 20 points for the winners. American swingman Rae Burrell (185-2000, college: Tennessee) replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international swingman Jade Melbourne (176-2002, college: Arizona St.) added 19 points and 6 assists in the effort for Canberra Capitals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Townsville Fire have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Melbourne. Canberra Capitals lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Townsville Fire will play against Perth Lynx (#5) on the road in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against Adelaide Lightning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
