The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Boomers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Boomers smashed 4th placed Bendigo Spirit in Melbourne 115-72. Boomers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Bendigo Spirit's 24. They outrebounded Bendigo Spirit 35-24 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Boomers shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 68.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Bendigo Spirit's players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Cayla George (193-1989) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Olivia Nelson-Ododa (196-2000, college: UConn) contributed with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Boomers players scored in double figures. The former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) answered with 17 points and the former international swingman Anneli Maley (187-1998, college: TCU) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bendigo Spirit. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Townsville. Bendigo Spirit at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Bendigo Spirit will play next round against strong Townsville Fire trying to get back on the winning streak. Boomers will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Sydney Flames on the road.
