Regular Season Round 5: C.Districts L. - Norwood F. 39-95

Date: April 6, 2023
Everything could happen in Gawler at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Flames and bottom-ranked Lions had identical 0-2 record. But Lions were not able to use a home court advantage and were crushed by the opponent from Marden 95-39 on Thursday night. Flames held Lions to an opponent 20.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Flames forced 27 Lions turnovers and outrebounded them 50-36 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Lions' players. The best player for the winners was guard Alex Wilson (181-1994) who had a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Sharna Thompson chipped in 26 points and 8 rebounds. Four Flames players scored in double figures. Forward Tiahna Sears (178, college: N.Alabama) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and American center Imani Guy (193, college: Marian, IN, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) added 2 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flames (1-2) left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. It was Lions' third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Flames will meet Warriors (#8) in the next round. Lions will play against Mavericks in Mt. Barker and hope to get finally their first victory.
