There was an upset when higher ranked Magic (3-1) lost to thirteenth ranked Redbacks (1-5) in Mandurah 80-86 on Saturday. Redbacks made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Redbacks outrebounded Magic 39-24 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Brooke Malone (185-2003, college: Idaho) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and Dajah Daniel supported her with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Even 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by American-American Samoan power forward Sarah Toeaina (185-1996, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Magic. Guard Casey Mihovilovich (173-1982) added 20 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Redbacks left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Magic dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. Redbacks will meet Goldfields G. (#11) in the next round. Magic will play against Flames (#7) in Rockingham and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
