There was a small surprise in Townsville where tenth ranked Flames (4-5) defeated their close opponent Brisbane Spartans (4-4) 85-77 on Friday. Flames made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) who had a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!), 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Guard Kate Gaze (173-1990, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Swedish forward Elin Gustavsson (190-1993, college: Colorado St.) produced a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds and guard Madelyn Allen (178-1994) added 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Flames moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Dandenong R. Loser Brisbane Spartans dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with 7 other teams. Flames will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
