Regular Season Round 18: Mt Gambier - Sandringham S. 84-95

There was a small surprise in Mt Gambier where fourth ranked Sabres (8-4) won against their close opponent Mount Gambier Pioneers (6-4) 95-84 on Friday. Sabres made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman, agency: ProMondo Sports) who scored 39 points (!!!). Naturalized American guard CJ Asuncion-Byrd (194-1996, college: LeMoyne) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Sabres' coach Rhys Carter allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Nick Marshall (196-1999, college: Clarke) who recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Leonard Harper-Baker (196-1996, college: Southern Miss) added 10 points and 15 rebounds respectively. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Sabres have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Joondalup W. and Knox R. Mount Gambier Pioneers lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Sabres will meet at home NW Tasmania Thunder (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mount Gambier Pioneers will have a break next round.
