Rather predictable result in Runaway Bay where ninth ranked Flames (5-7) beat 11th ranked Seahawks (3-5) 73-58 on Saturday. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and guard Kate Gaze (173-1990, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American power forward Erin Riley (180, college: Keiser) responded with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Bride Kennedy-Hopoate (185-1997, college: N.Mexico) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flames maintains ninth place with 5-7 record, which they share with Sandringham S. Loser Seahawks keep the eleventh position with five games lost. Flames will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Seahawks will play against Capitals (#7) in Brisbane and hope to secure a win.
