Regular Season Round 14: Goldfields G. - Perry Lakes H. 92-85

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Giants (3-8) won against higher ranked Hawks (8-4) in Kalgoorlie 92-85 on Saturday. Giants forced 19 Hawks turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international forward Darcee Garbin (188-1994) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Kiriana Hawaikirangi supported her with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even 21 points and 6 assists by American guard Nicolette Gilday (175-1992, college: Santa Clara) did not help to save the game for Hawks. Power forward Ashleigh Isenbarger (188-1997) added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Four Giants and five Hawks players scored in double figures. Hawks' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Giants moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hume City B. Loser Hawks keep the third position with four games lost. They share it with Frankston B. and Sherbrooke S.. Giants will meet at home league's second-placed Cougars in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hawks will play against the league's leader Wanneroo in Joondalup and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
