Sixteenth-ranked Thunder (3-9) was very close to win a game against second ranked Falcons (11-1) in Mount Waverley on Sunday. Falcons managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Falcons looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Rebecca Cole (178-1992) notched 24 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and forward Renae Mokrzycki (183-1994, college: Idaho) supported her with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Even a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds by Japanese center Kadysha Umezawa (190-1998) did not help to save the game for Thunder. Icelandic forward Eva Kristjansdottir (186-1997) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Four Thunder players scored in double figures. Falcons have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-1 record behind leader Wyndham D., which they share with BA CoE. Thunder lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Kilsyth LC and Camberwell. Falcons will meet at home Lady Cobras (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Thunder will play against Geelong Supercats (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
