Regular Season Round 15: Nunawading S. - Diamond VE 101-80

There was a minor upset in East Burwood where higher ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (7-6) were rolled over by eleventh ranked Spectres (7-6) 101-80 on Saturday. Spectres dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Valley Eagles' 34 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Spectres had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Alice Kunek (185-1991, agency: LBM Management) who scored 29 points and 5 assists. Emma Pearce chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Spectres' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Kara Tessari (174-1999) who recorded 18 points and 6 assists and American power forward Jennie Rintala (188-1990, college: S.Dakota St.) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five Spectres and four Diamond Valley Eagles players scored in double figures. Spectres moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Diamond VE and Gold Coast R. Spectres will meet at home Knox Raiders (#10) in the next round. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Mount Gambier Pioneers in Mt Gambier and hope to secure a win.
