Regular Season Round 22: Ballarat M. - Sandringham S. 87-99

Very predictable result when fourth ranked Sabres (11-4) won against 12th ranked Ballarat Miners (6-8) in Wendouree 99-87 on Saturday. Sabres made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Sabres outrebounded Ballarat Miners 44-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman) notched 27 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) to lead the effort and naturalized American guard CJ Asuncion-Byrd (194-1996, college: LeMoyne) supported him with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Five Sabres players scored in double figures. Even 31 points and 6 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) by guard Jack Davidson (185-1998) did not help to save the game for Ballarat Miners. Naturalized British swingman Adam Thoseby (197-1991, college: GSW) added 17 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sabres have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Ballarat Miners dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
