There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Ballarat Miners (6-8) lost to fifteenth ranked Tigers (5-9) in Melbourne 88-106 on Sunday. Tigers shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Ballarat Miners' players. Forward Jack Purchase (203-1995, college: Hawaii) notched 36 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and guard Taj Chehhal (188-2001) supported him with 22 points. Tigers' coach Andrew Gaze used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds by American power forward Tyler Rudolph (198-1996, college: Minot St.) did not help to save the game for Ballarat Miners. Guard Jack Davidson (185-1998) added 22 points and 4 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tigers moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Goldfields G. and Kilsyth C. Loser Ballarat Miners dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. They share it with 4 other teams.
