The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Wizards' (13-1) road victory over second-ranked Pirates (11-4) in Runcorn 97-84 on Saturday. Wizards dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Pirates' 36. They outrebounded Pirates 36-23 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Wizards especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) nailed 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and power forward Nadeen Payne (188-1993, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American Leah Scott (183-1993, college: Marshall) came up with 29 points and the former international point guard Maddison Rocci (169-1998, agency: ONE Sports and Entertainment) added 19 points and 5 assists respectively for Pirates in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wizards maintains first place with 13-1 record. Loser Pirates keep the second position with four games lost. They share it with Frankston B. and Mt Gambier. Wizards will meet Salties (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Pirates will play against Sunshine CP in Cotton Tree and hope to secure a win.
