There was a surprise result in Heathmont where tenth ranked Sabres (9-8) beat higher ranked Hawks (10-8) 94-84 on Saturday. Sabres dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Hawks' 34. They outrebounded Hawks 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. Sabres looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was British guard Eilidh Simpson (170-1992, college: SFC) who had a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Klara Wischer (190-1991, college: San Diego) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and Spanish guard Marta Hermida (180-1997, college: Boise St.) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists respectively. Five Sabres and four Hawks players scored in double figures. Sabres have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Hawks keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Sabres will meet at home Chargers (#13) in the next round where they are favorite. Hawks will play against Ballarat Miners (#18) in Wendouree and hope to secure a win.
