Regular Season Round 19: Ballarat M. - Ringwood H. 65-84

Date: June 30, 2023
Not a big story in a game in Wendouree where 18th ranked Ballarat Miners (3-16) were outplayed by sixth ranked Hawks (11-8) 84-65 on Friday. It was a great evening for guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Spanish guard Marta Hermida (180-1997, college: Boise St.) helped adding 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Hawks' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Kristy Rinaldi (181-1986) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Ballarat Miners players scored in double figures. Hawks maintains sixth place with 11-8 record, which they share with Sandringham S. Ballarat Miners lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the nineteenth position with 16 games lost. Hawks will meet at home higher ranked Geelong Supercats (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ballarat Miners will play against Diamond Valley Eagles (#10) and hope to secure a win.
