Regular Season Round 19: Diamond VE - Launceston T. 77-79

There was a surprise result in Greensborough where fourteenth ranked Tornadoes (8-11) edged higher ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (9-10) 79-77 on Sunday. Strangely Diamond Valley Eagles outrebounded Tornadoes 48-31 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Riley Lupfer (175, college: Boise St.) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Olivia West (168, college: UC Riverside) helped adding 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Tornadoes players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Jennie Rintala (188-1990, college: S.Dakota St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and guard Kara Tessari (174-1999) scored 17 points and 6 assists. Tornadoes moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Nunawading S. and Kilsyth LC. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Dandenong R.. Tornadoes will meet at home higher ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Ballarat Miners (#19) in Wendouree and hope to secure a win.
