There was no surprise in Sippy Downs where 13th ranked Rip City (5-12) was edged by fifth ranked Pirates (12-6) 80-79 on Saturday. Strangely Rip City outrebounded Pirates 44-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American Leah Scott (183-1993, college: Marshall) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and international point guard Maddison Rocci (169-1998, agency: ONE Sports and Entertainment) who added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. American forward Megan Mullings (185-1992, college: Alaska-Anch.) responded with 27 points and 9 rebounds and Carlie Smith produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Rip City players scored in double figures. Pirates maintains fifth position with 12-6 record. Loser Rip City dropped to the sixth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Hume City B.. Pirates will meet Seahawks (#8) in the next round. Rip City will play against Dolphins in Cairns and hope to secure a win.
