Townsville Fire repeat as WNBL champions - Mar 18, 2016

Townsville - Perth 80-70

The Townsville Fire earned the WNBL title. They swept the Grand Finals series versus the Perth Lynx. Perth Lynx was trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-9 charge of Townsville Fire, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Townsville Fire especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Natalie Novosel (180-89, college: Notre Dame, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and her fellow American import forward Betnijah Laney (183-93, college: Rutgers, agency: LBM Management) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Five Townsville Fire and four Perth Lynx players scored in double figures.
