The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with defeat of the leader and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Group QBLSC Phoenix - SW Metro P. 93-91A very close game took place in Cotton Tree (derby !!!) between Phoenix and South West Metro Pirates. Fifth ranked Phoenix (7-4) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked South West Metro Pirates (5-6). Phoenix managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Saturday evening. Phoenix dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to South West Metro Pirates' 20. They outrebounded South West Metro Pirates 49-29 including a 35-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Jamaal Robateau (196, college: Gardner-Webb) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and forward Jonathan Janssen (205-95, college: HPU) chipped in 24 points and 11 rebounds. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Phoenix's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side the former international guard Tanner Krebs (198-96, college: St.Mary's, CA) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Max Kerle scored 25 points and 5 steals. Phoenix maintains fifth place with 7-4 record. Loser South West Metro Pirates keep the seventh position with six games lost. But Toowoomba Mountaineers were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Gold Coast 97-80 on Saturday night. Rollers forced 19 Toowoomba Mountaineers turnovers and had a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Center Brent Wallace (213-92) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Thunder forced 23 Northside Wizards turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Boston Mazlin fired 23 points for the winners. Forward Atem Bior (201, college: UTSA) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Thunder players scored in double figures. Jacob Arthur produced 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and guard Mitchell Elliott (190, college: Seminole St.) added 4 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Thunder. They maintain sixth place with 6-5 record. Northside Wizards lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. They used home court advantage to defeat Rip City (2-9) 70-63. They outrebounded Rip City 47-34 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Maika Shortland nailed 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and David Fynn accounted for 16 points. Seahawks' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Louis Ilton (191, college: TAMIU) came up with 21 points and 8 rebounds and guard Isaih Tueta (187-91) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Rip City in the defeat. Seahawks maintains twelfth place with 1-10 record. It was Rip City's seventh loss in a row. They keep the tenth position with nine games lost. Ipswich Force made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. International guard Nathan Sobey (190-90, college: Wyoming) fired 31 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Brisbane Spartans. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Brisbane Capitals made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 Brisbane Spartans turnovers. Brisbane Capitals players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Brisbane Spartans' players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Jason Cadee (186-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. Forward Jarred Bairstow (201-92, college: UCO) contributed with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Brisbane Capitals players scored in double figures. Power forward Callum Dalton (207-0) answered with 25 points and New Zealand center Tyrell Harrison (213-99) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Brisbane Spartans. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brisbane Capitals maintains second place with 9-2 record having just twenty point less than leader RedCity R., which they share with Ipswich F. Brisbane Spartans at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost.
