Here is the weekly review of the top performing Australian players, who play currently abroad.


Duop Reath

   #1. This week's number one is former University international center Duop Reath (210-96, college: LSU, currently plays in ABA League). He led his Serbian team Crvena Zvezda to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Borac (1-2) crushing them 95-64 in the ABA League in Sunday night's game. Reath scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in a mere 16 minutes on the court. KK Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (3-0) is placed second in the ABA League. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Reath's first year with the team. He has relatively good stats this season: 11.7ppg, 4.3rpg in three games he played so far. Reath has a dual citizenship: Australian and South Sudanese. He played for the Australian university national team three years ago.

Brock Motum

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Brock Motum (208-90, college: WSU, currently plays in Turkey). Motum could not help Galatasaray (3-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance Galatasaray lost 82-91 on the road to the much lower-ranked (#13) Fethiye. Motum was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 3 passes in 30 minutes. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. It's Motum's first year with the team. This season Motum has relatively solid stats: 12.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 57.1%(12-21), 3FGP: 41.7% in four games. He played for the Australian national team in 2016.

   #3. The Australian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Nick Kay (206-92, college: MSU Denver, currently plays in Spain). Kay was not able to help Real Betis (0-0) in their game against Movil Estudiantes (4-1) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game He scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. It's Kay's first season with the team. This year Kay averages: 9.6ppg, 7.2rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 45.7%, 3FGP: 18.2%. Former Illawarra Hawks starter played for the Australian national team one years ago.

   #4. Center Angus Brandt (208-89, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Japan) led Shiga L-Stars to a victory against the eighth-ranked Niigata Albirex (3-4) 99-93 in the Japanese B1 League on Sunday night. Brandt scored 17 points, had 9 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 2 shots. Shiga Lakestars (2-4) are placed sixth in West group. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Brandt has reliable stats this season: 12.5ppg, 8.3rpg and 4.3apg. He used to play for the Australian national team back in 2018.


The list of other players, who all have Australian passport but never been selected to any of Australian national teams:

   #1. Dominic Gilbert (198-G/F-96, agency: Slash Sports, college: UBC, currently plays in Croatia) was the major contributor in Zadar's victory against the ninth-ranked KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (0-9) 78-69 in the Croatian Premijer Liga last Wednesday. Gilbert recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. KK Zadar (4-1) is placed first in the Premijer Liga. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Gilbert has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg and 8.4rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Australian and Croatian.

   #2. Rasmus Bach (193-G-95, college: Fort Lewis, currently plays in Denmark) led Randers to a victory against the third-ranked Svendborg (3-1) 101-91 in the Danish BasketLigaen last Wednesday. He recorded 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 20 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Pro A. Randers Cimbria Basketball (3-0) is placed first. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. This year Bach's overall stats are: 8.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 2.3apg in three games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Australian and Danish.

   #3. Ben Ayre (188-G-95, college: Newman, currently plays in Lithuania). Ayre could not help Mazeikiai (0-1) to beat Vytis (2-0). He recorded 5 points and added 4 assists in 14 minutes. It was his first game for Mazeikiai this season. Mazeikiai was crushed 99-63 at home by the much higher-ranked (#3) Vytis. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.

   #4. Damian Prgomet (208-F, college: SW Baptist, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help CAM E.Soler (0-2) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Prgomet's very good performance the 13th-placed CAM E.Soler (0-2) was defeated 75-68 on their home court in Melilla by the leading Carbajosa in the West group. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Prgomet also added 4 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 2 shots. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Prgomet has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 18.5ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.0apg.

   #5. Adam Thoseby (198-F-91, college: GSW, currently plays in Austria) was not able to secure a victory for Arkadia Lions (0-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Arkadia Lions lost 81-96 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#3) Gmunden Swans. Thoseby scored 13 points and added 7 passes in 38 minutes. So far Arkadia Lions lost all three games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Thoseby has very impressive stats this year: 16.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.0apg and 1.3spg in three games. He has both Australian and British nationalities. Worth to mention Thoseby played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #6. Taiga Cantor (201-F, college: Vermont Tech, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Osaka Evessa in their game against Kyoto Hannaryz in the Japanese B1 League. Cantor cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His team was defeated 88-82. Cantor's overall stats this season are: 1.5ppg and 2.0rpg.

   #7. Hamish Warden (203-C-99, college: NDC, currently plays in Switzerland) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Nyon in their game against Boncourt in the Swiss SBL. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Warden scored only 3 points in 8 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Nyon this season. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 94-75. Warden also holds two passports: Australian and Swiss.

   #8. Deng Riak (208-C-95, college: Akron, currently plays in Lithuania) couldn't help Delikatesas in their game against Jonava in the Lithuanian NKL (second division). He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Riak scored only 2 points. His team was crushed by 22 points 81-59. Riak's overall stats this season are: 1.0ppg and 1.5rpg.
