Cairns Taipans (NBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old Brazilian ex-international guard Scott Machado (186-82kg-90, college: Iona). It is actually his comeback to Cairns Taipans as he has played here before. Machado played in the summer at Armored Athlete (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. The last season he played at Cairns Taipans in Australian NBL where in 31 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16.6ppg, 3.9rpg, 7.7apg (leader !!!) and 1.4spg (in top 2). Machado helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very spectacular season in his career as he was voted to Australiabasket.com All-Australian NBL 1st Team and All-Imports Team.
Three years ago (five years after he left the college) Machado was drafted by South Bay Lakers (G-League) in first round (10th overall).
The former Iona College star is in his ninth season in pro basketball.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015.
Machado also represented Brazil at the World University Games in Shenzhen (China) nine years ago. His stats at that event were 7 games: Score-5 (19.1ppg), 2.9rpg, Assists-1 (4.4apg), 1.4spg, FGP: 54.1%, 3PT: 18.2%, FT: 82.4%.
Machado is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Australia and of course North America) in eight different countries. Machado has played previously professionally in Estonia (Kalev/Cramo), France (ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne Basket), Germany (EWE Baskets and Rasta Vechta), Israel (Maccabi Haifa), Spain (La ICL Manresa), NBA (Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors and LA Lakers), NBA G League (Rio Grande Valley Vipers) and The Basketball Tournament (Team Fancy and Gael Nation).
Among many awards Machado's team made it to the German Bundesliga final in 2016. He received also All-MAAC Player of the Year award and USBasket.com All-NCAA D1 1st Team award back in 2012 at his college time.
The scouts decsribe him following way: Controls the game without having to score... Tremendous passer with a great understanding of the game... Pure point guard that looks to get his teammates involved.
