The Perth Wildcats have announced the signing of three-time NBL championship-winning shooting guard, Corey Webster (188-G-1988, college: Lambuth). Webster last played in the NBL in 2021, averaging 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists with the New Zealand Breakers, where he's played his entire NBL career since debuting in 2008. He sits fourth on the Breakers all-time scoring list with 2,664 points from 236 games. The 33-year-old elite scorer is excited to join the Wildcats for the next chapter in his career. 'I feel honoured to be recruited by a club like Perth, everybody knows their history and the success they've had in the NBL so to be wanted by a team like that is an honour for me and I'm very grateful,' he said. 'I also have a lot of history against Perth in the league, so I think I'll be quite familiar with the winning standard that they have over there and I'm very excited to join the team and hopefully push for a Championship.' On the international stage, Webster has represented the New Zealand on 92 occasions, leading the Tall Blacks with 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists in five games at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. 'Corey has been an elite scorer in the NBL and international basketball for the better part of the last decade,' said Perth Wildcats general manager of basketball operations, Danny Mills. 'When we were looking at areas that needed to be addressed this off-season, adding a combo guard who can play both on and off the ball and provide another perimeter scoring option is something we were searching for. 'Corey is a perfect player to fit into that role, he has championship experience in the league and we're incredibly excited to be able to sign someone of Corey's talent and have him suit up in a Wildcats jersey next season.' Webster also played six games in the NBA Summer League for the Dallas Mavericks in 2018 and has played professionally overseas in Egypt, Serbia, Italy, Greece, Israel and China. Head Coach Scott Morrison is pleased to add Webster to the Wildcats roster. 'Corey is an excellent fit with our line-up as we searched to add a versatile guard who can both play-make for others as well as get his own bucket,' he said 'Not only does he bring an element of instant offense but also a championship resume from his time with the Breakers. 'He knows what it takes to win in the NBL and will be a major part in our quest to do so. We are happy to welcome Corey to the Wildcats.' The 188cm veteran is currently contracted to the Franklin Bulls in the NZNBL, a league in which he has won three championships and was named two MVP awards in 2014 and 2017. Webster joins the Wildcats on a two-year contract which includes a mutual option at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
