Melbourne United (NBL) tabbed 28-year old Canadian 193cm guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (college: FSU) for new season. Rathan-Mayes is the second foreign player in the roster as USA Rayjon Tucker signed here earlier.
He played this summer at YGC (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. He managed to play in three leagues in three countries last year (!!!). In two TBT games just recently he averaged impressive 20.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 3.5apg and 1.0spg. He also played for Scarborough (CEBL) in Canada where in 7 games he had 11.7ppg, 3.9rpg and 4.0apg.
Rathan-Mayes was also a member of Canadian international program for some years. He played for Canadian Senior National Team back in 2017 and previously for U18 National Team in 2012.
Rathan-Mayes represented Canada at the World Championships U19 in Prague (Czech Republic) nine years ago. His stats at that event were 9 games: 12.2ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.0apg, 1.0spg, FGP: 38.9%, 3PT: 29.0%, FT: 38.9%.
He is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in nine different countries playing on three different continents. Rathan-Mayes is familiar with European, Australian and of course North American leagues. He has played previously professionally in Greece (AEK Athens), Israel (Bnei Hasharon), Romania (Sibiu), NBA (NY Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies), Australia (Illawarra Hawks), NBA G League (Texas Legends, Westchester Knicks and Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario), Canada (Hamilton), The Basketball Tournament (Armored Athlete) and NBA Summer League (Washington Wizards).
Among many awards he won NBA G League Atlantic Division championship title in 2018. Rathan-Mayes was voted to ACC All-Defensive Team back in 2017.
He graduated from Florida State University in 2017 and it will be his sixth season in pro basketball.
Rathan-Mayes is described as: has a great shooting stroke from behind the arc as well as off the dribble and a good understanding of how to create space in the mid-range area.
