South East Melbourne Phoenix (NBL) inked 28-year old American 198cm swingman Malcolm Bernard (college: Xavier) for upcoming season. Bernard played this summer at Bendigo Braves (NBL1 South). In 16 NBL1 North games just recently he averaged impressive 18.3ppg, 3.9rpg, 10.8apg (leader !!!) and 2.1spg. The last season he played at Ufimets Ufa in Russian Superleague 1 where in 9 games he had 14.7ppg, 5.9rpg, 3.4apg and 2.3spg. Good season as he was voted League Player of the Week.
In 2017 he was drafted by Grand Rapids Drive (G-League) in first round (13th overall).
He graduated from Xavier University and it will be his sixth season in pro basketball.
Bernard is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to nine different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia and of course North America). Bernard has played previously professionally in Argentina (Argentino), Belgium (Leuven Bears), Finland (Nokia), Qatar (Al Khor), Slovenia (Rogaska), Russia (Novosybirsk), NBA G League (Grand Rapids Gold) and The Basketball Tournament (The Web).
His team made it to the Big East Tournament Semifinals in 2017.

He joins Phoenix as an injury replacement player for Trey Kell.
