NBL One Round 3 (Regular Season): Cockburn C. lose to Slammers

NBL One Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 3 most important game was a defeat of Cougars (1-1). They were defeated by Slammers (1-2) 89-77 on Friday night. SW Slammers forced 28 Cockburn C. turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SW Slammers made 9 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Cockburn C. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Alex Holcombe (206-1998, college: DBU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. His fellow American import swingman Buay Tuach (198-1995, college: LMU, agency: Haylett Sports) helped adding 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Rhys Vague (206-1996) with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cougars will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest. Slammers will try to continue on its current victory against Joondalup W. on the road.

It was an exceptional evening for guard Luke Rosendale (194-2001) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Tyler Rudolph accounted for 26 points and 8 rebounds. Ballarat Miners' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Rowan Mackenzie (190-1999, college: LCU) came up with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for Bendigo in the defeat. Ballarat Miners will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Bendigo Braves will play at home against Waverley F. (#19) to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Perth between Senators and Hawks. Senators (3-0) got a very close home victory over Hawks (1-1). Senators managed to escape with a 1-point win 93-92 on Friday evening. The best player for the winners was Michael Harris who scored 18 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was DeQuan Abrom who recorded 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Senators will meet East Perth E. (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hawks will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: winless Kilsyth C. was destroyed by Ringwood on the opponent's court 94-65. Winless Sandringham S. lost to undefeated Knox R. in a home game 93-109. Dandenong R. managed to beat Melbourne T. on the road 88-82. Frankston B. defeated Keilor T. on its own court 115-98. Ringwood lost to undefeated Nunawading S. in East Burwood 88-102. Mandurah lost to undefeated Rockingham F. at home 116-125. East Perth E. managed to outperform Kalamunda ES on the opponent's court 99-83.

Ballarat M. - Bendigo B. 97-86

Bendigo Braves (1-1) recorded a loss in Wendouree. Visitors were defeated by Ballarat Miners (1-1) 97-86. Ballarat M. shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. At the other side the best for losing team was Joel Foxwell who recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized American guard CJ Asuncion-Byrd (194-1996, college: LeMoyne) added 26 points respectively.
