The Regular Season in Big V just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Steelers in Shepparton on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Gators 76-71. Shepparton made 33-of-42 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Western PS only scored fifteen points from the stripe. 29 personal fouls committed by Western PS helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of New Zealand guard Dylan Wilkie (191-2001) who helped to win the game recording 21 points (made all of his eight free throws). Canadian swingman Jayden Coke (199, college: Academy of Art, agency: Starting 5) contributed with 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Liam Ingram answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Western PS. Steelers' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gators are looking forward to face Camberwell in Melbourne in the next round. Steelers will play on the road against McKinnon and are hoping to win this game.
Another interesting game for Keysborough which played in Melbourne against Camberwell. Keysborough crushed hosts 107-82. American point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) stepped up and scored 22 points and 4 assists for the winners and Gerrard Newby chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the losing side American point guard Christopher Elder (180-1989, college: St.Francis, IL) responded with 17 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keysborough will play against Hume City in Tullamarine in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Camberwell will play at home against Shepparton and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Storm which hosted in Bellarine Vikings. Storm had an easy win 105-79. Kavione Green nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Kortland Martin came up with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Blackburn in the defeat. Vikings' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Storm will meet at home Sunbury in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vikings will play against Pakenham and hope to win that game.
Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Winless Sunbury lost to undefeated McKinnon on the road 70-86. Winless Hume City lost to undefeated Melbourne Uni on its own court 77-87. Wyndham managed to outperform Shepparton in Werribee 85-71. Winless Hume City lost to undefeated Pakenham at home 81-114.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Malik Colvin-Seldon of Pakenham.
