The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Warriors (2-1) in Keysborough on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Cougars (3-1) 118-92. Keysborough made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. His fellow American import forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) helped adding 22 points and 7 rebounds. Cougars' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Malik Colvin-Seldon (203-1996, college: Cumberlands) with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Cougars is looking forward to face Sunbury (#4) at home in the next round. Warriors will play against Shepparton and are hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in McKinnon. Cougars (3-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging Gators (2-2) 95-92 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Mongolian forward Steve Wooten Jr (198-1998, college: Bethesda) who led the winners and scored 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Mitchell Barry accounted for 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Cougars' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Canadian swingman Jayden Coke (199, college: Academy of Art, agency: Starting 5) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for Shepparton in the defeat. Cougars will play against Melbourne Uni (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gators will play against Pakenham and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in McKinnon. host Cougars (3-1) were smashed by Devils (3-0) 118-85. The best player for the winners was Myles Thomas who scored 24 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Mitchell Barry who recorded 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Devils will meet Western PS (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cougars will play against Melbourne Uni (#7) and hope to secure a win.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: winless Camberwell lost to Bellarine on the opponent's court 82-90. Melbourne Uni managed to outperform Western PS in a home game 100-85. Sunbury managed to beat Blackburn on the road 81-76. Winless Blackburn was defeated by Hume City on its own court 100-114.
