It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Devils. American guard Nick Velasquez (190-1994, college: Union, TN) stepped up and scored 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and forward Rohan Jarvie chipped in 19 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). American guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Devils' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bellarine moved-up to seventh place. Wyndham at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Bellarine are looking forward to face league's second-placed Keysborough at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wyndham will play against Camberwell in Melbourne and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Cougars (4-2) against fourth ranked Cougars (5-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Cougars were defeated by Cougars in Keysborough 95-77. The best player for the winners was James Legan who scored 30 points. Ricardo Time produced 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vikings maintains eleventh place with 1-5 record. Loser Melbourne Uni keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Shepparton. Blackburn will meet at home higher ranked McKinnon (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melbourne Uni will play against Bellarine (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 5: winless Western PS lost to Hume City on the opponent's court 101-103. Melbourne Uni managed to outperform Pakenham in a home game 97-91. Sunbury managed to beat Shepparton on the road 77-72. Camberwell was defeated by Pakenham on its own court 86-91.
