American Forward Gerrard Newby (196-F-1995) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Keysborough Cougars, receiving a Hoops Agents Big V Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 34 points and 14 rebounds, while his team in a lost game to Wyndham (#1, 10-1) 91-94. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Cougars maintains the 2nd position in Australian Big V. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Keysborough will need to avoid more loses keep or improve their 8-4 record. In the team's last game Newby had a remarkable 83.3% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Cougars, through which he has constantly improved. Former Union College, Kentucky star has very solid stats this year. Newby is in league's top in points (6th best: 22.3ppg) and averages impressive 1.1bpg and 65.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Troyce Manassa (193-G-1993) of league's leader Wyndham Devils. Manassa had a very good evening with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. It was enough for Devils to edge the lower-ranked Hume City (#6, 5-4) 104-100. Of course Wyndham still keep the league's top spot. His team belongs to top of the standings with 10-1 record and is considered one of the main candidates for the league title. Manassa is one of the most experienced players at Wyndham and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Lukas Kafritsas (193-SG-1997) of Melbourne University (#7). Kafritsas showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Melbourne Uni, leading his team to a 105-89 easy win against the lower-ranked Western PS (#12, 1-10). The chances of Melbourne Uni ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 6 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Kafritsas could help Melbourne Uni to bring them higher in the standings. Kafritsas has a very solid season. In 10 games in Australia he scored 10.2ppg.
