The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Devils (13-3) in Keysborough on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Cougars (13-5) 102-84. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Devils. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Keysborough made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. American forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Cougars' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds for Wyndham. Keysborough maintains second position with 13-5 record having just two point less than leader Wyndham. Wyndham at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Keysborough are looking forward to face Bellarine (#6) on the road in the next round. Wyndham will play against Hume City (#4) in Tullamarine and is hoping to win this game.

Forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 20 rebounds. Hume City Broncos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-5 record. Bellarine lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with nine games lost. Hume City will play against higher ranked McKinnon (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Bellarine will play against the league's second-placed Keysborough and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Cougars (13-5) against fourth ranked Cougars (12-6) on Sunday night. Host Cougars were defeated by Cougars in a tough game in Keysborough 93-99. Shaquille Maharaj notched 29 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 41 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Anthony Williams did not help to save the game for Keysborough. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. McKinnon moved-up to third place. Loser Cougars keeps the second position with five games lost. McKinnon will meet Hume City (#4) in the next round. Keysborough will play against Bellarine and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: Melbourne Uni beat Camberwell on the road 109-101. Pakenham won against Shepparton on its own court 87-72. Western PS managed to outperform Sunbury in Western Port 90-85. Bellarine was rolled over Melbourne Uni at home 92-116. Camberwell was defeated by Blackburn on the opponent's court 130-122.



Bellarine - Hume City 91-94

Important game to mention about took place in Bellarine. Fourth ranked Hume City Broncos (11-5) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Storm (9-9) 94-91 on Saturday evening. Hume City made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American players dominated the game. Western PS outrebounded Sunbury 46-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. American center Russell Permenter (203-1988, college: Providence) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Jake Macaulay (174) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Steelers' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 18 points and 5 assists by guard Nathan Marshall did not help to save the game for Sunbury. Owen Stephens added 21 points for the hosts. Five Western PS and four Sunbury players scored in double figures. Western PS moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Camberwell. Sunbury lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Western PS will meet bottom-ranked Blackburn (#12) in the next round.
