New Zealand Breakers (NBL) have signed 27-year-old American 206cm center Freddie Gillespie (college: Baylor) for the upcoming season. He most recently played for Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Summer League, where he averaged 3.0ppg, 5.0rpg, and 1.0bpg in two games. Last season, he played for KK Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Beograd (KLS) in the Serbian league, as well as 15 games in the Euroleague with 2.5ppg and 1.9rpg. Gillespie also had a stint with Bayern Muenchen (BBL) in the German league, competing in three different competitions and gaining experience at various levels of basketball.
Three years ago (a year after his graduation), Memphis Hustle selected him as the second overall pick in the G-League draft.
Gillespie graduated from Baylor University in 2020, and it'll be his fifth season in pro basketball.
He is a very experienced player. Gillespie has played professionally in Germany, Serbia, NBA (Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors) and NBA Summer League (Toronto Raptors). He won the Adriatic League championship title in 2024.
In addition to his time at Carleton College, Gillespie was selected to the Eurobasket.com German Bundesliga All-Defensive Team in 2023.
