33-year old swingman Todd Blanchfield (198-F/G-1991) had an amazing evening in the last round for Illawarra Hawks 2nd team and receives a Hoops Agents NBL One Player of the Week award for round 1.
He had a double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat Maitland M. (#12, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 96-88. Thanks to this victory Hawks moved-up to the 4th position in Australian NBL One. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Illawarra H. 2 won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Blanchfield had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Hawks and it was his first game, where he immediately became new team's leader. Blanchfield has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 31.0ppg) and averages solid 5.0bpg and 85.7% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Tom Wilson (195-G-1997) of Melbourne Tigers. He is international guard in his first season at Melbourne T.. In the last game Wilson recorded an impressive 30 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course he led Tigers to another comfortable win outscoring Sandringham S. (0-2) 100-69. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Wilson is a newcomer at Melbourne T. and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 30.0ppg (#4). His other stats are also decent: 8.0rpg and 6.0apg.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Akech Aliir (204-F-2000) of league's leader Mount Gambier Pioneers. Aliir got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for ten rebounds . He was a key player of Pioneers, leading his team to a 108-58 easy win against Geelong U. (#14, 0-1). Mt.Gambier has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Aliir also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. Aliir has a very solid season. In 2 games in Australia he scored 23.5ppg.
