Big V Round 2 (Regular Season): Hume City defeat McKinnon

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Big V. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cougars in McKinnon on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Hume City Broncos 100-88. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 7 rebounds. New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Shaquille Maharaj (196-1997, college: Camosun) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for McKinnon. Cougars' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Hume City Broncos is looking forward to face Melbourne Uni at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cougars will play against Wyndham and are hoping to win this game.
The game in Werribee was also worth to mention about. Jets played at the court of Devils. Jets managed to secure a 7-point victory 81-74. Byron Gladden had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Joshua Yorke-Frazer chipped in 22 points and 4 steals during the contest. Jets' coach Nathan Heywood allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American power forward Malik Miller (206-1995, college: Claflin) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Jets will play against Shepparton at home in the next round where they are favorite. Devils will play against Camberwell and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Cougars and Gators in McKinnon on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Cougars outscored guests from Shepparton 102-72. Shaquille Maharaj notched a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 17 points by Ryan Batte did not help to save the game for Shepparton. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cougars will meet at home Wyndham in the next round where they are favorite. Gators will play against Sunbury and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: RMIT beat Camberwell on the road 92-80. Bottom-ranked Shepparton lost to undefeated Keysborough on its own court 78-93. Bellarine managed to outperform Melbourne Uni in a road game 82-67. RMIT managed to beat Blackburn at home 96-88.



Camberwell - RMIT 80-92

No shocking result in a game when Redbacks beat Camberwell in Melbourne 92-80 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when RMIT made 7 blocks. Josh Uhr-Henry notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and American guard Darnell Hoskins Jr (180, college: SVSU, agency: 6th Man Basketball Agency) supported him with 26 points. Even a double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds by American power forward Michael Reeves (205-2000, college: Dillard) did not help to save the game for Camberwell. Guard Trent Andre (184-2001) added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Redbacks will meet Keysborough on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Camberwell will play against Wyndham in Werribee and hope to win that game.

Very expected game when Gators lost to Cougars in Shepparton 78-93 on Saturday. They outrebounded Shepparton 44-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. American forward Benjamin Okhotin (198-1999, college: PLNU) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks to lead the effort and the other American import point guard Anthony Williams (178-1995, college: Clark Atlanta) supported him with 30 points. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Even a double-double of 23 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists by American forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) did not help to save the game for Shepparton. Joshua Kooiman added 14 points for the hosts. Four Shepparton players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Kerry Richardson (202-1999, college: Morehouse, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) notched a double-double by scoring 13 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the other American import guard Malik McKinney (190, college: West Liberty) supported him with 31 points and 5 rebounds. Worth to mention Richardson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by British power forward Oliver Stanley (196-1994) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Uni.
