Big V Round 5 (Regular Season): Hume City keeps a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Hume City Broncos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Hume City Broncos smashed 8th ranked Storm in Tullamarine 112-80. 26 personal fouls committed by Bellarine helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Malik McKinney (190, college: West Liberty) answered with 31 points for Bellarine. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hume City Broncos have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with McKinnon and Keysborough. Bellarine lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with five games lost. Bellarine will play next round against strong McKinnon trying to get back on the winning streak. Stephen Coffey came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Pakenham in the defeat. Keysborough keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hume City and McKinnon. Pakenham lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Keysborough will meet at home Camberwell (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pakenham will play against Melbourne Uni and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: winless Wyndham was beaten by Melbourne Uni on the road 102-94. McKinnon won against Camberwell on its own court 100-85. Bellarine unfortunately lost to Shepparton in a road game 90-96. Shepparton managed to beat Melbourne Uni at home 105-91.



Melbourne Uni - Wyndham 102-94

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Melbourne Uni (4-3) beat at home bottom-ranked Devils (0-5) 102-94 on Saturday. Forward Joel Rimes (196) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Lukas Kafritsas (193-1997) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Malik Miller (206-1995, college: Claflin) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import center Jalen Rosemond (203-2000, college: Molloy) added 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Wyndham in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Melbourne Uni have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 4-3 record, which they share with Shepparton. Defending champion Wyndham still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Camberwell.
