Gerrard Newby claims Australian Big V weekly honour

American Gerrard Newby (196-F-1995) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's leader Keysborough Cougars and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Big V Player of the Week award for round 10.
The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds, while his team crushed Shepparton (#7, 6-7) with 18-point margin 95-77. It allowed Cougars to jump to the first place in the Australian Big V. Keysborough have a solid 11-2 record. In the team's last game Newby had a remarkable 76.5% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Cougars, through which he has constantly improved. Union College, Kentucky graduate has very impressive stats this year. Newby is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 10.6rpg) and averages solid 63.0% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American power forward Kerry Richardson (202-F/C-1999, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) of Bellarine Storm. Richardson impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Storm lost that game 96-101 to the higher-ranked Melbourne Uni (#6, 7-6). This loss caused Bellarine to drop to 10th position in the standings. 10 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Storm managed to get this year. Richardson is one of the most experienced players at Bellarine and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Morehouse College alumni Richardson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

The third best performed player last round was Stephen Coffey of Pakenham Warriors (#5). Coffey showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Warriors, leading his team to a 117-98 easy win against the lower-ranked Blackburn (#12, 1-11). Pakenham needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 8 victories and 5 lost games. Coffey has a great season in Australia. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 5.5apg (3rd best). He also has 2.2spg and and 3PT: 42.0%.
